Class Descriptions

  • Focused on learning the basics of ballet or modern dance.

  • Ballet & Modern dance classes are designed to increase strength and flexibility while improving posture, balance, flexibility, mobility and memory. Modern classes also have a specific focus on level changing, i.e. getting on and off the floor.

These classes are for students over the age of 50 who want to experience these health benefits.

  • This class is for people 50+ who have always wanted to learn how to tap dance, or who took classes as a child and want a refresher course. Have fun and work on balance, coordination, and rhythm with fellow students while learning basic tap steps that will become combinations and routines. No dance experience necessary!

  • If you can Shuffle Off to Buffalo and do Time Steps, this Intermediate tap class is for you! By learning challenging combinations and routines, students 50+ will have fun together while improving balance, strength, and coordination.

  • A one-hour program geared towards age 50+ participants emphasizing cardio dance and fitness routines to music that makes you want to move! Routines will be low impact, high intensity, and appeal to the dancer in you. We will alternate dance with resistance routines to build and maintain muscle and bone density. Get stronger with dance!

Fitness Dance classes are led by Penny Brichta who holds group fitness certifications in ACE (American Council on Exercise), Silver Sneakers, Jazzercise, and Barre Connect.

Required equipment: Lightweight dumbbells with the option of full water bottles mixed with beans, sand, or rocks, or easy to grip cans from your pantry.

  • Pilarre [pē lär] is a unique movement class for those 50+ that combines Pilates with either Ballet or Modern Dance barre technique. Each session will begin with thirty minutes of mat Pilates followed by thirty minutes of either a Ballet or a Modern barre. Come join us for an enjoyable hour of mind-body conditioning. All levels are welcome!

  • Dance classes are based on traditional folk dances from different, mostly European, countries. Enjoy the style of dances you see in classical ballets! Character classes consist of a barre warm-up and center floor exercises filled with fun. Get your character shoes (Jazz shoes may be also be worn) and ladies, grab a skirt.

This series is offered at various times throughout the year. Check back to see when it will be offered next.

  • Free to cancer survivors. Advanced registration required. Dance for Joy brings peace, recovery, and a sense of community to cancer survivors. Dance for Joy classes are led by both TTD Co-Founders Lynne Belsky and Lisa Gold. Read on to learn about the origins of these classes:

Many dancers instinctively know how important it is to get back to class after an injury or illness. Lynne Chervony Belsky, M.D. and Lisa Gold—a duo who are cousins, dancers, and breast cancer survivors—found that conventional dance classes were difficult during early recovery.

A dear friend and mentor, Carol Walker, had always taught Lynne and Lisa to “dance for joy”—her personal motto. Lisa and Lynne found that they had similar shared desires to create and teach dance classes that go beyond just the steps. This inspired them to create a dance class just for cancer survivors where they could feel the comfort and compassion of being with others while enjoying the freedom and therapeutic aspects of dance.

Dance for Joy had its inaugural class in October 2016, with people of different ages and experiences in dance, who all wanted to “feel better”.  The class did just that.  Lynne and Lisa prepared a ballet-based class with modern dance influences to high spirited and heart-warming music. The results had everyone ecstatic and revitalized. One participant stated “she hadn’t felt this beautiful in years” as she broke down in tears of happiness.

We now incorporate our Dance for Joy students in all our classes. We also have an ongoing fundraising effort to defray the cost of classes for these individuals. Join us in class to see how you can improve your life during treatment, in recovery, and beyond. For more information or if you have any questions, please contact us.
